Key Traits
of aWorship Leader

In order to faithfully steward the giftings and responsibility of leading the church in worship, the following are characteristics that support the Paradox Culture of Worship and help us proclaim and display the glory and grace of Jesus, that all may sing! We will use these Key Traits to identify and cultivate healthy, faithful, and fruitful Worship Leaders who treasure Jesus and are passionate about leading others to worship Him.

  1. ENGAGING & ENCOURAGING

    • Motivating presence in posture, tone, speech, and song. As Worship Leaders we motivate those around us (both team and congregation) to engage with God and each other. We are heralds of good news to all people! We are the trumpet sound that calls the church to battle and equips them with the psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to sing to God and one another!

    • We lead the way in what it “looks” like to worship God together. We engage with God and each other and express our worship both naturally (in context) and intentionally (in discipline) with our whole being mind, body, and soul. Our leadership gives permission  that we have freedom in our expressions of worship to the Lord. Our team and congregation should know how we can respond to God by the tone of our voice, the expressions on our face, the way we move, dance, kneel, shout, and lift our hands, etc.

  2. EMPOWERING & RESOURCEFUL

    • We rally and entrust our team to work together towards a common goal and vision. It’s not just about what we can do as leaders, but what we can do through our team. This means we utilize the gifts of others to build up the church, we pass the mic, we free up the band to be creatively invested in the set and songs, we exhort the team in their given roles to proclaim and display the glory and grace of Jesus.

    • Intentional, clear, and helpful in communication and resources for those we are leading. We take the time to prepare, plan, and clearly communicate vision and expectations. We ensure our team has all the resources they need to succeed. That PCO is updated and accurately resourced in a timely manner to best support and prepare our team. We give helpful direction and ongoing support. We both encourage and challenge each other in our growth in character and competency.

  3. FAITHFUL STEWARD OF GOSPEL, GIFTING, AND MINISTRY

    • We take seriously the sacred and holy joy and responsibility of leading the church in worship. We consider the people we are leading in our planning and in our leadership. We seek to proclaim and display the Gospel and help those around us respond to it with great joy and hope.

    • We invest in our own personal growth and the role we have been given. Being a Worship Leader is more than just leading a song or planning, it’s being a true worshiper first, going to Christ first, depending on the Spirit first, working to multiply our gifting and see our character and competency grow by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. We want to be an example for what worshiping Jesus looks like, not just on stage, but off stage.

    • We take ownership of the Ministry. Attentive and quick to serve to the needs of the Worship Ministry. We are the first ones that see when something or someone needs attention, we speak up and step in. We lead together. We have clear and specialized roles in the ministry but serve one another and make everything and everyone around us better, that all may sing!
