WORSHIP IS ALL OF LIFE
Romans 12:2 - Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Matthew 22:37 - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
WHY IS WORSHIP THROUGH SINGING SO IMPORTANT?
It’s who God is. And it’s one of the ways we become more like him.
Zephaniah 3:17
Ephesians 5:18
Hebrews 2:12-13
It’s a family trait.
It’s something that God leads us to do together.
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says,
“When he ascended on high he led a host of captives,
and he gave gifts to men.”
-Ephesians 4:1-8
God tells us to.
There’s over 500 references to singing in the Bible, and over 50 direct commands for us to sing.
It’s transformative.
It binds our hearts to his. When we sing we can’t do much else.
It focuses us on Jesus. That’s why it’s such a good weapon against the enemy…
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
-2 Corinthians 3:18
SINGING HELPS US TO:
Praise God
(Psalm 145)
Pray to God
(Psalm 22)
Proclaim God
(Colossians 3:12-17)
THAT ALL MAY SING
All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. - Psalm 86:9
The vision God has set before us is one of inevitable victory. We work in service to the unshakable kingdom of God that leads to our joy in the praise and glory of Jesus Christ our king, that all may sing! Everything we do in Music & Arts from setting up or preparing slides on Sunday morning, to mastering a guitar or vocal part is all in effort to make much of Jesus, that all may sing. The beauty in serving the Church is that our efforts are not in vain. The glory and grace of Jesus will fill the earth “as the waters cover the sea.” What assurance! What grace! What confidence! In its simplest form, let it be a resounding anchor for us in Music & Arts, that we exist on this team, that all may sing.
